As the winter season approaches at HMHS, here is a winter sports preview.
SWIMMING: The HMHS swim teams are on quite a roll lately! The girl’s swim team has won six straight state championships while the boy’s team has won five straight state championships. With the girl’s team winning its sixth state championship in a row last school year, it became the first girl’s team in New Jersey public school history to win six in a row, and they are eager to make it seven. In addition, the girl’s team has also won eleven straight section titles. Both the girl’s and boy’s swim teams are eager to keep their winning streaks going heading into the upcoming season.
WINTER TRACK: Last season, the girl’s winter track team was the South Jersey Group 2 sectional champion while the boy’s winter track team won the Group 2 state championship. (As a running update, the 2025 Fall’s cross country boy’s team just recently received a ticket to run in the Nike Nationals competition in Portland starting December 6.)
BASKETBALL: Last season, the boy’s and girl’s head coaches reached milestone wins. Last season, the girl’s team had a record of 18-12 with Coach Mulligan reaching her 300th win on the Haddonfield team, and the boy’s team had a record of 21-8 with longtime Bulldawgs head coach Wiedeman earning his 600th career victory. The 2025-2026 opening basketball games will be December 16 for the boys team against Westhampton Tech at 7 pm. Last season, in the only match-up between the teams, the Bulldawgs lost by 12 points. The girls will open the season against West Deptford with a home game on December 23 at 7 pm.
CHEER: The high school’s cheer team is looking to build upon its popularity from last year when it was led by 15 seniors. This upcoming season, with more than 50 girls trying out, it looks to be another fun season. This team cheers at the boy’s and girl’s basketball games and performs halftime shows.
WRESTLING: Last season, the wrestling team at HMHS had a record of 17-12. This season, they have their first wrestling match on Saturday, December 13, home, against Allentown. Last time they went up against each other, Haddonfield won 39-25. This year, they are hoping for another victory to start off the season.
