What’s up, everyone?! Today we’re at Groovy Smoovies in Haddonfield, New Jersey! Founded by author, screenwriter, and producer Antonne Jones, Groovy Smoovies is a movie-themed smoothie shop located on Kings Highway, halfway between our school and the Bistro. Best known for his literary works The Family: A Philadelphia Mob Story, Equal Verdicts, Display of Power, and The Brain Within, the latter two being published by Shark Tank investor Daymond John, Jones created Groovy Smoovies in December 2020 due to a lack of smoothie options during the during the pandemic. Jones states, “I’m a huge smoothie drinker. . . I just wanted to provide healthy and happy options. . .a place where people could forget about what’s going on and come here and relax.” Jones was definitely successful in bringing his vision to life. Not only was the interior movie theme super cool with many different posters of classics, but it had a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

As for the smoothies, they were delicious! My sister got the Mumbai Mango, so of course, I had to takie a sip. It’s made of peach, mango, banana, orange juice, turmeric, and ginger. The sweetness of the peach and banana perfectly complemented the acidity of the freshly-pressed orange juice, and the subtle spice of the ginger took the drink to the next level. If you’re looking for more of a chocolatey drink, there is the West Side Smorey, with marshmallow, chocolate, graham crackers, banana, and almond milk. I got it with peanut butter and loved it! It was the perfect amount of sweetness I was looking for. I got the small one, so I was surprised at how filling it was.

Perhaps the most popular smoothie at the location and Jones’ favorite is the Amora the Explora, with raspberry, banana, almond milk, almond butter, greek yogurt, and honey. “The reason why it’s my favorite,” Jones mentions, “is because it tastes good but also because I named it after my granddaughter, Amora.”

Because the place is movie-themed, they have popcorn too! It tastes exactly like the popcorn at movie theatres with the perfect amount of salt and butter.

Throughout my experience at Groovy Smoovies, I felt extremely welcomed, and I expect to come back during lunch whenever I’m craving a smoothie. I strongly encourage you to check it out! There is a 15% off discount for all HMHS students!!! All you have to do is show your student ID.

“Haddonfield is a really special place with special people–really nice people. The kids and the young adults here are incredible. . . the Haddonfield community rallied around [Groovy Smoovies], and the support that we received from the town is what helped us to be sustainable.”
