Boys basketball comes to an End

Joseph De Simone, Writer

Haddonfield’s Boys’ Varsity Basketball team’s outstanding season came to an end March 3 with a loss to the Manchester Township Hawks in the Sectional Quarterfinals of the Group 2 State Championship. The game was played at Manchester High School in front of a raucous home crowd. The game followed a thrilling win by the Girls’ Varsity Team over their Manchester counterparts with many Haddonfield fans making the over one hour drive to support both Haddonfield teams. The Dawgs started off slowly, with their first five points coming from foul shots. Manchester took an early lead which they steadily increased over the course of the game with strong offensive and defensive play. But Haddonfield never gave up. They never quit. Even when they were down by 30, they played with heart until the final buzzer, ending the season with a strong 18-10 record, 8-2 in the Conference. The team was led throughout the season by a great group of seniors — Richie Bond, Matt Fell, Jack Malady, Tommy Kadar, Conor Lambert, Jon Baxter, and Greg Gibson. Though these seniors will be missed, the future looks bright for the team which has a core group of good young players. It was a successful 2016 season for the Boys’ Varsity Basketball Team, one to be proud of, and fans have plenty of reason to look forward to next season.
