Haddonfield Memorial High School is looking forward to having a new business teacher this year who brings classroom teaching experience and professional business knowledge. After two years of service as a consultant to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware school districts, Mr. Veight returned to the classroom to be among the students and create authentic, real-world experiences.
“I genuinely missed the everyday interactions with students,” he said. “Working with administrators and tech departments was valuable, but the student piece was missing for me, and I felt the call to return to where I love.”
Before consulting, he was a business and technology educator and a sports coach for several years with the West Deptford School District. His out-of-class experiences helped him see the other side of education.
“It was great to experience the business side of education as a consultant,” he said. “I learned a great deal and felt like I was doing impactful, important work.
One of his biggest concerns since joining HMHS is building sound business programs and engaging students with hands-on, cutting-edge courses. He also intends to continue DECA as an active club.
“In addition to getting the DECA Club up and running, my goal this year is to create real-life learning atmospheres in each course,” he said. “I hope to reach students in a way that helps them see how each course can connect to their future in some way.”
Despite being on campus for a short period of time, he’s already impressed with the people and environment. He’s starting to see long-term potential for both the students and the business department.
“The staff has been incredibly welcoming and very helpful, and I’m grateful to be here,” he said. “In the future, I hope DECA is operating as a productive and enjoyable club, and that our business department can continue to grow with new course offerings that appeal to students’ interests.”
