Six guests are invited to a dinner party at a luxurious mansion, when all of a sudden… the host is murdered! All the guests must team up with the butler to try to figure out who among them is the murderer. At least that is what we think happened. To find out more, go see the fall play Clue. The leading player is Paige Fitzpatrick, a senior, who has been a part of the drama club her entire high school career. During an interview, we were able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the road to becoming the lead, Mr. Wadsworth. The first Thursday of school was auditions, but the process started long before then. At the beginning of summer, all auditionees received the script and the role they chose to audition for. According to Paige, the actors can rehearse as much or as little as they want throughout the summer. Since the talent was so strong this year, selected members of the cast were invited for callbacks. Soon after, the cast list was released over the weekend. The cast only had six weeks to prepare before Clue’s debut, thus they had to get to work as soon as they could.
Clue, the board game, was made into a movie in the 1980s, and is of the comedy-mystery genre. It first debuted as a play in 2017. Clue is an ensemble show, a performance in which the success of the show is dependent on all of the cast members instead of one leading player. Which means that everyone in the cast has the opportunity to shine!
The drama club has a new director this year, HMHS’s new English teacher, Ms. Secondino. According to Paige and the other drama club members, Ms. Secondino has done an amazing job taking over the drama club. She has had a clear plan for the entire play but has still let the actors use their creativity to influence the scenes. The actors feel a strong connection to the cast and the scenes, which made this a great opportunity for the cast to make the play their own.
Overall, the HMHS production of Clue is definitely a play that you do not want to miss. See it October 23rd, 25th, or 26th. The HMHS drama club has put so much hard work and dedication into the show! So, will you figure out who did it?
