On March 18th at 7 pm, students who had excelled in academic achievements regarding their studies in world language were honored with friends and family in the HMHS Auditorium. These students were inducted into the World Language Honor Society for German, Spanish, French, and ASL. Previously inducted members also attended, helping by announcing each student’s name and handing them a certificate.
Before the ceremony, guests were greeted by Ella O’Neil, who played the piano.
Former HMHS German teacher Chris Gwin also briefly addressed the audience, emphasizing the role that world language studies play in personal and academic growth. He shared several stories, both local and international, about past students who had used their language skills to enhance various aspects of their lives, helping them connect to relatives of a different culture or advancing international opportunities. Gwin, along with the presidents of the Spanish, German, and French clubs, expressed the importance of language studies and highlighted the dedication and academic achievements of the new inductees, celebrating their commitment to language learning and their promise to continue fostering a broader understanding of the world.
After the ceremony concluded, attendees were treated to baked goods made by students. A variety of foods representing all the cultures included in the event were served. This post-ceremony gathering allowed for a celebration of cultural diversity through cuisine.
