On Saturday, October 7th, 2023, Tom Odell visited The Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia with Jane’s Party and Seafret. This was their first US date for this tour. When my dad was purchasing the tickets he said they were very cheap, roughly seven dollars per ticket. From my home to the venue, it was a 25-minute drive and we got there around 6:25. Since I knew the parking would be impossible, my dad drove me and my crew to the venue. The doors opened at 7:00 pm and we ended up being fairly close, there was one row of people in front of us and then it was the barricade. Everyone that was around me was very kind and one person even made sure that my camera could see the performance.
Around 8:00 pm, the first band, Jane’s Party, came out and performed 7 Songs: You’re the Light, Daydream, Straight from Heart, Wait for You, It’s Been Years, Ships on an Ocean, and Live Again. They were all wearing stylish shirts and the instruments and voices were wonderful. While looking around, not many people knew the songs but everyone was vibing along with the beats and the lyrics. At the end of the concert, Jane’s Party was near the merch stand and I was able to grab a picture with them. They were all very kind and willing to make sure everyone who wanted a picture got one.
The next band that came out was Seafret and they performed 8 Songs: Give Me Something, Running Out of Love, Picture, Wildfire, Wonderland, Oceans, Be There, and Atlantis. While their whole band wasn’t there, they still did a wonderful job with just the singer and the guitarist. The same situation that happened with Jane’s Party, happened with Seafret. No one knew the songs other than Atlantis. They seemed very comfortable on stage and it looked like they were fun people to be around.
Then finally, Tom Odell came out at 9:30. He performed 16 Songs: Giving a F***, numb, Can’t Pretend, Black Friday, Flying :)), Heal, Best Day of My Life, a mash-up of Long Way Down and Grow Old with me, Till I Lost, Hold Me, fighting fire with fire, money, Concrete, Magnetised, Another Love, and one new song that is titled Somebody Else. He mentioned that ‘Somebody Else’ is going to be on the new album he is working on. The lights were wonderful and showed the emotion displayed in the songs. Everyone was having a blast and I could tell Odell was having a blast as well. He continuously smiled when hearing us all sing with him and when the song had more intense emotions rather than just sad.
While he was performing the song titled Concreate he started walking around the stage and getting closer to the fans. When he finally walked over to the right side of the stage, where we were standing, he jumped off and started standing on the barricade. This caused him to be in my face and standing over other people. Everyone, including myself was going crazy. After he finished the song he said, “I’m sorry I had my back turned to you the whole show, I’ll just finish it here.” Unfortunately, he did not finish it there but he continued to sing and make the show a wonderful experience.
