Over the summer, the Haddonfield School District decided it was time to redo the bathrooms. I was able to sit down with Mrs. McHale, the principal, and the Business Administrator, Mr. Catalano to ask the questions that students and faculty have, including price and completion.
As most people would think, bathrooms are very expensive to redo so how much were the bathrooms? The bathrooms were around $800,000 however, what people may not know is that there were 22 bathrooms redone which means each one was roughly $36,000. When speaking with Mr. Catalano, I asked where the funds came from and he said, “These funds came specifically from Covid, there were grant entitlements to us…the SR2 and ARP funding we actually used some of those funds, not all of those funds, to help fund renovations of the bathrooms.” Mrs. McHale also mentioned that when you are doing anything with grants, they have to choose the lowest bidding.
While it may seem that the bathrooms are finished, they are not. The mirrors have not been installed yet and some of the sinks still need to arrive. However, they should be done by October but, Mr. Catalano mentioned, “That’s always to be determined and that could move back based on when things happen.” While things are still missing and a few things need to be replaced, the bathrooms are very nice and were definitely needed.
