On Black Friday, the Fall Sports Season officially came to a close.
I asked around to see what people thought about how they did personally in the season, how their teams did in the season and most importantly: Did you feel like your team was building community?
I spoke with Sophie Fred, a Freshman on the Haddonfield Girls Varsity Tennis team. She says she was nervous to join the team, but ended up having a great time in the end. She said she was so proud of herself, her team and the seniors on the team for pulling through this season. “I’m lucky to be a part of the team, and everyone is welcoming. It made me feel like I was a part of something.”
I also spoke with Brian Meng and Kyrylo Chastukhin from the HMHS Marching Band. They had an extremely good season, placing fifth in the New Jersey Tournament Of Bands Atlantic Coast Championship. Both Brian and Kyrylo agree that this win has boosted teamwork and confidence as a team and will influence the Marching Band for years to come. “I would definitely miss the Marching Band. It’s been a huge part of my life for over four years of high school, and I feel that I’ve created a family here in this program,” Brian says. As a senior at HMHS, this will be his last year in the Marching Band. But for Kyrylo, it is not. He believes that this year’s win is the kickstart to amazing seasons next year, and later: “We are going to make history, I’m sure.”
So after interviewing these three, I have concluded that the sports community at HMHS is highly respected and students pour their souls into their work.
