Haddonfield High School student Enya Carthy made the Ireland Women’s Under-17 national soccer team this past summer. She traveled to Ireland to try out for the team in July and officially made it August as the goalkeeper. Quickly after she made the team she was off to Portugal to compete. The team played Poland, Portugal, and Scotland, during the Scotland game Carthy made an amazing save, securing their victory.
When Carthy was asked what being on the team was like she said, “It is a really exciting experience and pretty nerve-racking too.” Despite the obvious stress that can come along with this huge opportunity, Carthy is doing fantastic and has many supporters around her.
Maeve Hurley, her Haddonfield teammate said, “Ireland has never been luckier to have such an insane goalie. She works hard, plays hard, and is the best teammate there is.” With Carthy being on varsity since freshman year and always working hard, she has built a great reputation. Many will be rooting for her as she competes on this highly competitive team.
Roger Federer once said “There’s no way around hard work. Embrace it. You have to put in the hours because there is always something you can improve on.”
