There have been many controversial opinions on summer work and the discussion of whether it should be required. Does this really help or is it a distraction from summer? Teacher’s think summer work should be assigned and is very important to do. Others disagree with this statement stating that summer work is useless and can cause stress. 

Personally, I think summer work is a waste of time. Summer is our one break of the year so why should we have to be put to work? Also, a student stated, “In summer some people have jobs so we already have enough work.” This can add more stress, chaos, and more work to their schedule. Many students agreed that they don’t try as hard on summer work then in school. There can be given pages and pages of work that may not even be a topic they go over in school. What is the point of that? Having to read a full book for some classes and annotate it, full math packets, and more. I do understand if there is a little homework regarding a brief summary over what material was taught and will be required. 

Putting this information together, summer work appears to be useless. Teachers  should understand kids have lives as they were once a kid themselves. Summer work can be one of the greatest struggles in summer and could be a reason for not taking the class. In conclusion, there should be little to no summer work assigned for students. Teachers should have to get approval before assigning pages and pages of work.
