Block periods and having Dawgtime in the morning is amazing and I would love to have that everyday. Maybe instead we have Dawgtime longer and 60 minute periods instead. I think the shorter periods would make it easier on people psychologically to get through the class. Also, then we wouldn’t have to take breaks during the classes; therefore, the teachers can just teach through the period and not stop in the middle to give a break to students.
To fix the issue of block periods being too long, you can just cut them back in time. They can be 60 minutes long with no breaks, just powering through the period. Like a power hour. I feel like it would also be more productive to have longer class periods because 40 minutes is definitely not enough time to get anything done and it’s hard to go from one period to another after 40 minutes. If you have that extra 20 minutes, it’s not as hard in my opinion.
I feel like there is no cost. Maybe besides the fact that the teachers have to spend time for a 60 minute period instead of 40 minutes, which does not cost them either. It seems as though teachers don’t like having the block periods. I don’t understand why though; you can get so much more done in a block period then a regular period. Also the students are the same way. I feel like block periods would work in our favor because you get to spend more time in the class and do more activities then you would in a 40 minute period. They do drag sometimes, so I can understand why people don’t like them.
In the future, if students don’t have Dawgtime in the mornings, then it will be tougher for students to meet with teachers. It already is tough as is because there is no time in the day just dedicated to doing nothing besides lunch and study halls and some people just don’t have study halls. Maybe if we added in an extra period that was forced to be a study hall for everyone, it would be great because then people can meet with teachers. Everyone should have at least one study hall and most or all teachers should be free during the study hall. Then students could get help with homework or whatever they need help with.
