On Tuesday, March 19th, 2024 at exactly 11:06 PM, spring began, and since then a lot has happened. The first thing that should be pointed out is the 4.8 magnitude earthquake. It was the most impactful near Tewksbury in Northern New Jersey. Now you may be thinking “Why does this earthquake matter?” Well, it has been several years since we had an earthquake, especially one of this magnitude. Over 120,000 people reported feeling the earthquake. Thankfully there were no injuries reported, just structural damage.
Moving on to the April 8th, 2024: the solar eclipse. It has been around seven years since the last solar eclipse. The next eclipse will happen around August 23rd of 2044. Let’s talk a little bit more about the solar eclipse. Some strange things people reported happening was a sudden drop in temperature and mood-changes in animals (ex. Pet dogs, pet cats, etc). It is important to keep in mind to not look directly at the solar eclipse because of the eye-damage it can lead to.
Finally, another thing that should be noted is the Cicada-geddon. Anywhere from mid-may to late June, Cicadas will begin their journey crawling out from underground. One of the largest geographic broods in the nation, titled as Brood XIX comes out every 13 years and last march they began. Unfortunately, there is a 13 and 17 year cycle and over 15 different broods. On the 17- and 13-year cycles. These two broods may overlap averaging around 1 million per acre over hundreds of millions of acres across 16 states.
