After the retirement of Dr. Sohn, the slot for another science teacher at HMHS required filling. Luckily for the HMHS student body, Ms. Dominiak was available to do the job! Ms. Dominiak graduated from the University of Central Florida and has since worked at schools in the Orlando area, as well as in Collingswood before coming here. “Since moving to South Jersey, I’ve always heard wonderful things about the education system in Haddonfield,” she explained, when asked what drew her to our school, “So, while I love Collingswood High School and had planned to work there until the day I retired, I always thought ‘the only place I’d be willing to leave Collingswood for would be Haddonfield’ and the stars lined up that way!” Today, she teaches AP chemistry alongside Mr. Romea, as well as CP chemistry and accelerated biology.
“I have AP Chem with Ms. Dominiak and I feel like I’m really learning from her,” said Katie Crawford, a junior, “She toes the line of being very educational while also having fun in class.” This is most definitely the consensus. Students are drawn to Ms. Dominiak because of her approachable nature and bubbly personality. Even in her interview she joked around saying, “I initially was going to teach for a few years then apply to dental school. But I realized quickly that I love teaching and I REALLY hate cotton balls (like I’m terrified of them) and you need to use a LOT of cotton balls in dentistry…” She often regales her classes with silly (but memorable) pneumonic devices and stories that always relate to the lesson in a fun, but helpful way.
Even this early on in the year, Ms. Dominiak has left a lasting impression on her students. A wonderful addition to the HMHS science department, Ms. Dominiak urges her students to “drink plenty of water and go to bed early” as a tip for success. Welcome Ms. Dominiak, and we hope you’ve found HMHS as awesome as its students have found you!
