Now that my class, the class of 2024 is in our senior year, one of the most important things about this year is applying to colleges. Even though we are still early in the year, I have done a good amount of the process for college applications, such as the main essay and the supplemental essays, and visiting the colleges themselves. So far this process has been exciting yet difficult, with multiple writing prompts, bubbles to fill in, and data to put down. While this part of the process was stressful there were other parts that were enjoyable and memorable. Those enjoyable parts came with the college visits. For me there was nothing better than touring the schools, staying overnight places and being able to experience the areas around that school. While all of that takes a great portion of time this is the most important of any student’s career up to this point. This process determines not only the four years of college after high school, but how you are going to apply yourself for the rest of your life and career. For me this whole process has been long but set up for me to complete in a neatly formatted way by having sites like Common App and Naviance every step of the way. These sites have made applying so much easier, by being able to easily fill out both in school and out of school resumes in Naviance and actually sending applications through the Common App. This is what Mr. Holman, one of the the college counselors and most helpful person in this process, had to say: “That the counselors wish to emphasize that seniors are not alone in the process, and that the counselors are available to help seniors as much as possible, and take pride in the student success in the application process.” As you can see the counselors are always open to helping students so there is never a reason to not go for them to make this whole process easier and more promising for you and your future.
