Madrigals Take 1st Place at Ren Faire!
October 14, 2022
Wassail good lords and ladies of Haddonfield Memorial High School! On October 5, our very own Madrigals singing ensemble won first place out of 22 schools at the Pennsylvania Rennaissance Faire! As a Madrigals member myself, I will hash out all of the details (and will include some fun pictures as well).
First, we started the day bright and early by getting on the bus at 7 am. Tired, but excited for the day, we made our way to the Rennaissance Fair and arrived at about 9 am. From there, we warmed up and practiced “Fyer Fyer”, an English Madrigalian arrangement by Thomas Morley. We watched as other schools performed, and then performed ourselves. Since the results would not come out until the end of the day, we ventured out to the fair to see the festivities offered. There were many quaint jewelry stores, shops selling swords and crowns, and ones selling crystals and costumes as well. The food was a big hit by our Madrigals members, some of the more popular items being a “pickle on a stick” and a turkey leg! At the end of the day, Mr. Mills, the Madrigals’ director, surprised us all by showing us our first place ribbon! Elated, we journeyed on to watch the joust take place. There were horses, knights, royalty, swords, and much much more! After the day’s festivities, we were ready for the bus ride home, where we slept, and at one point we even burst out into song! What a great memory to cherish from my last year performing at the Rennaisance Faire!
