Salvatore, Gabriella, and Caterina 17, Davide 16, Maddalena 15, and Chicca, a counselor, all had life-changing experiences at Italian Camp last summer. Italian Camp is exciting, informative, fun, and the best adventure ever for many kids. Many come to this camp and never want to leave. The campers and counselors completely immerse themselves into the language they learn at Concordia Language Villages.
Chicca says, “My first year working here was a wonderful experience, mainly because there are no such structured summer camps in Italy.”
You meet lots of friends and guida (counselors) at camp. Also, there are many activities you do while you are at camp. Some activities include canoeing, archery, playing cards, making pasta/cookies, spettacoli, swimming, watching movies, and more. Spettacoli were in the evening before we went to bed. From morning until night, in any situation, Italian is spoken. No English is spoken.
Gabriella says, “My favorite spettacoli were the discotecas because I loved dancing and just letting go. Also, it was fun!”
The camp brings in people from all over the world. There are students from Europe, Asia, and more. It is not just for Americans. Also, some of the counselors come from outside of the United States. For example, Chicca is from Brescia, which is near Milan and in northern Italy.
Chicca says, “I chose to spend my summer at a summer camp in Minnesota because, currently, I am a French teacher, but in the future, I would also like to be able to teach Italian to foreigners coming to Italy or move abroad and continue with teaching Italian.”
