Priscilla is a romance/drama movie that follows the story of Priscilla Presley. Award-winning Sofia Coppola is the director, while Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny star as Elvis and Priscella. Rather than focusing on Elvis, this film focuses on Priscella’s point of view on her and Elvis’ relationship.
The film was very visually pleasing and interesting. The idea to make a movie about Priscella Presley only a year after Elvis was released is interesting enough in itself. Priscilla is almost a rebuttal to Elvis; instead of showing Elvis at his best Priscilla shows his toxic side as well. Viewers have had almost nothing but great things to say about the film, however those still alive that were close to Elvis had some things to say about this film. Elvis Presley’s estate officials say the film was “just horrific” and Lisa Marie, Priscilla and Elvis’ daughter was not too thrilled about the movie being released either due to the fact that she believed it painted her father in a negative light. However, we as viewers cannot discredit those who were close to Elvis or Priscilla and simply have to enjoy the movie and perhaps take the presented information with a grain of salt. Despite anybody’s expectations before watching, good or bad, I do not think anybody will be disappointed with this film.
I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who is interested. The filmography alone is beautiful which is expected with Coppola directing and A24 as the producers. I think it’s very important people see Priscilla’s view on her and Elvis’ relationship because we as a society often glorify Elvis and his actions. This film shows us that Elvis was not perfect and there were actually a lot of problems going on behind the scenes. The movie does not have much of a climax, however, so if you are looking for something with a dramatic end or middle, I would recommend a different movie. The storyline is incredibly interesting though and if the Presleys even slightly interest you, I would recommend you see it. I think this movie will not only be very successful but well enjoyed by many.
