Recently, a new burger joint has arrived in the main shopping center of downtown Haddonfield. Many small restaurants come into town hoping to make money, but end up needing to make more to afford to stay or resist getting bought out by larger chains. Gouldsburger’s opened around late April of 2023 in between The Corner Bistro and Passariello’s. They occupy a very small area, making them easy to miss. Beginning with their website, it is well organized and the pictures will make your mouth water. Their menu is small but unique, featuring specialty different burgers, interesting hot dogs, premium fried chicken sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, and more. They are a small business, run by two men, David Murray and Walter Gouldsbury, who work around the clock from the register and serving to the grill as well.
From my own experiences at Gouldsburgers, there is no negative comment I can come up with. I purchased the Haddonfield Hot Crispy Chicken Sandwich with a side of truffle fries, which came to a total of about $20. The chicken sandwich was high quality and covered in their delicious spicy cayenne butter sauce. I am not the best with spicy foods, but I knew I needed to try this sauce. It was not crazy spicy but added a good kick to the high-quality and perfectly fried chicken. Speaking honestly, I can confidently say that this sandwich was the second-best chicken sandwich I have ever had, right behind an authentic high-quality chicken restaurant in Tennessee called Hattie B’s.
My friend ordered the Gould Standard, one of the signature burgers. The Gould Standard comes with shredded lettuce, pickle chips, sliced raw onion, Cooper sharp, and Heinz ketchup. She is gluten-free and was very excited to hear they had a gluten-free bun. The burger itself she claims was one of the best she ever had. The mix of toppings all complement each other through flavor and texture. She even added a bit of the truffle aioli that came with the truffle fries, saying it added a good addition of flavor. With the addition of the gluten-free bun, the signature burger was a great first burger to try from Gouldsburger. My friend says she is excited to try more of their items.
On top of the gluten-free buns, they also offer lettuce buns and a burger called the House-made Better Beet Burgers which are vegan-friendly. Aside from the food, The environment is very warm and welcoming. Despite the small size of their restaurant, you walk into a bright yellow area with a little bit of seating against the walls and a register straight ahead. The walls feature many pictures of their food as well as some paintings. The service was fantastic too. The two owners were in the kitchen and working the register themselves. They were very polite and inviting, also checking with each customer to make sure their food came out alright while they were eating.
Overall, I have absolutely no negative comments about Gouldsburgers besides the fact that their restaurant is too good to have that small of a location, and they should be in a bigger location. Either way, the food is just as good and I highly recommend everyone give this restaurant a try. I am confident many people will become frequent visitors of this restaurant.
