Going into the first normal school year since the pandemic, excitement brewed as each sport entered the Fall 2022 season with numerous accomplishments: holding high hopes for the competitions ahead. With the seasons now about halfway through, the records and achievements thus far are much impressive for our Fall Bulldawgs.

Over at Pennypacker Park and beyond, both Boys and Girls Cross Country teams have displayed outstanding seasons so far, most recently at the Bowdoin Classic in New York. With both teams placing second overall, 5 of the girls placed in the top 10, including senior (and Bulldawg Bulletin Editor) Helene Usher at 3rd place, accompanied by juniors Ava Thomas, Riley Slootsky, freshman Riley Austin, and junior Audrey Naticchia placing 6th-9th! Bowdoin was also a monumental feat for the boys races, as senior George Andrus placed 2nd, (also achieving second fastest time ever by an HMHS runner), followed by Donnie Jellig, Robert DiMedio, and Ian Romea.

Riding on their South Group 2 regional championship win last fall against Point Paulsboro, the HMHS football players have not disappointed thus far. With 4 weeks into the regular season, both the freshman and the varsity teams remained undefeated. Since then, the varsity football team suffered two losses, one to top team Camden on October 7 and the next week against Woodstown. On September 30, Haddonfield won against our classic Colonial Conference rival, West Deptford, 14-7. In one of the first rainy games under the Friday night lights, junior quarterback Declan McCarthy scored first. He was then later followed by junior Dominic Hahn, who ran for 24 yards to secure the win in the 4th quarter. Last Friday the Bulldawgs won yet again against Sterling with a blowout victory, 55-0. Check out their next game this Friday October 28 when the Dawgs go up against Cinnaminson for the NJSIAA Tournament Quarterfinal Round.

Meanwhile on the turf, the soccer teams have been working diligently this preseason and throughout the the season. With a current record of 11-7, the girls team has had some very impressive games, including a 2-1 2OT win against Rancocas Valley! This thrilling victory was brought by the defense, goalie Enya Carthy with an impressive 8 saves, the tying goal from Thea Spellmeyer, and captain Allison Baxter who secured the victory.

For the boys team, it has been a great season thus far as well! Both varsity goalkeepers, Alex Goldman and Brady Norton, were named Nj.com Colonial Conference Players of the Week back in September! Some notable victories for the team included 4-2 against Gateway, 4-0 against Collingswood, and a hard fought 2-1 win against Clearview, which included goals from senior Matt Murshell and junior Sam Carlson. Their current record stands at 10 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie. Come cheer on the Dawgs at their next game this Thursday October 27 at 4:00 pm against Lindenwold.

On the courts, nothing has changed for the victorious tennis team. With a current record of 18-5, the varsity girls have had numerous feats, including from the Haddonfield Doubles Invitational on September 17th. Coming on top over Cherry Hill East, Moorestown, and Manasquan, the Dawgs came on top with amazing performances by Sammy Sirover, Lucinda Andrewes, Evie York, Julia Hart, Brynn Durham, Tina Tian, Chloe Kamp, Emily Turnage, Mia Swiecicki, and Eliza Gordon. The Dawgs defeated competitor Cumberland for NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 Tournament with a 5-0 win. Unfortunately they lost out to North Jersey rival Holmdel on October 20 in the NJSIAA Semi-Final Round Group Tournament. It was a great season with an 18-5 record. Great job Dawgs!

With another conference title in the books, the field hockey team is having a terrific season this fall with a current standing at 9-7. Star goalie Moira Geiger reached her 500th career save, and helped secure wins over Gloucester, Collingswood, and Haddon Township. In their win against Collingswood, 2 goals were scored by sophomore Ava Poliafico, along with senior Brynn Bickel and sophomore Olivia Marthins, all of whom found the goal within the first quarter! On top of their successful triumphs, the team was recently selected to play in the Max Prep National High School Invitational in Conshohocken, PA! They had the opportunity to go against some of the best competitors in the area. Congratulations to the players and coaches on this recognition!

Following their impressive spring season, which involved placing 12th in the SRAA Nationals, the crew team is participating in many big competitions, most recently the Head of the Charles in Boston last weekend, as well as Navy Day on October 16. The team is looking forward to the next regatta this Sunday October 30 for the Head of the Schuylkill!
