Summer is always a great time for new movies, and this year is no exception. With all the great movies about to be released, it can be daunting deciding which ones should make your “must see” list. To help you make up your mind, here’s a quick overview of the five most promising movies coming out in the next few weeks.

Finding Dory – The much awaited companion to Finding Nemo arrives in theaters on June 17th. Ellen DeGeneres is reprising her role as the Blue Tang fish, Dory. Although there is a thirteen year gap between the releases of the films in real time, this film is set just six months after the events of the last one. A great choice for young children and older fans alike, this movie is sure to be a hit, just make sure you re-watch Finding Nemo before going to the theaters.

Me Before You Based on Jojo Moyes’s best-selling book, Me Before You stars Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke and Hunger Games veteran Sam Claffin. Opening June 3rd, the film has already received great reviews. The New York Times declared it “impossible not to fall in love with the characters.”

The Legend of Tarzan –David Yates, best known for his work with the Harry Potter films, has directed the upcoming film The Legend of Tarzan. The film stars Alexander Skarsgaard as Tarzan and Margot Robbie as Jane. Other cast members include Samuel L. Jackson and Casper Crump. The movie revolves around Tarzan’s return to the jungle after living in London for years. Catch it in theaters beginning July 1st.

The BFG- This adaption of Roald Dahl’s children’s book, The BFG, uses cutting edge special effects and animation to bring the story to the big screen. Famous director Steven Spielberg has used his talents to create a film that has already received great reviews. Opening July 1st, this picture makes a great option for a family outing.

Alice Through the Looking Glass- Although this film technically releases this spring (May 27th) it is definitely poised to be one of the big summer blockbusters. The sequel to 2010’s Alice in Wonderland, this adaption stars big name actors like Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and Sacha Baron Cohen. Producer Tim Burton brings his typical fantastical elements to the film. This whimsical film has received some negative reviews, but it seems to be a good bet for those who enjoy Burton’s other films.
