Arts in the Courtyard 2016: A Day of Music, Beauty!

HMHS’s 2016 Arts in the Courtyard was a huge success! The sunny weather was a welcome departure from the recent rain making the day even more special. Live music flowed through the court yard all day. Some of Haddonfield’s most talented artists performed including CoEd, Ellen Berry, Sophie Hamilton, Math Rocks, and Commander Constance and David Reader. CoEd HMHS’s Acapella group was highly popular. Senior member Rebecca Otto commented that, “all of our hard work really paid off, Arts in the Courtyard is like a culmination of a year’s worth of practice.” This year there was even a parkour group that performed. The group was led by Junior Christa DeCoursey and consisted of other members of her parkour gym. To the backdrop of the live music was an assortment of stands sprawled throughout the courtyard. Some stands sold homemade crafts by both art students and art teachers alike. Chocker necklaces, bracelets, and even crystals were available to buy. Megan Becceril, an AP Art student who ran a stand with fellow senior and AP Art student Gabby Battino said about their stand, “Gabby and I made crystals for Arts in the Courtyard because it is something different that we had never seen before.” Their pink, purple, and blue crystals were not only a new addition to Arts and the Courtyard they were a great one. Other stands offered services such as the ever popular henna, face painting, and hair braiding. Kristen Munafo, a henna artist, stated that her, “hands hurt so much by the end of the day because [she] only got one ten minute break. Everyone wanted a henna tattoo, they were such a success.” There were also stands set up that allowed HMHS students to try some new art techniques for themselves. Students could learn how to use pastels, make a vase, or even enter a finger painting contest the winner of which received a $20 gift card to Qdoba.
